We mentioned in our previous post that we will be sharing more information about the early days in DWG leading up to our 90th celebration on June 5th and 6th. Following are some historical tidbits that you will be able to learn more about during our different events. (See the June 5 and June 6 tabs for more event info.) On June 1, 1936 during the Great Depression, Dalworthington Gardens incorporated as a homestead association. In 1933 Carl Mosig purchased a home and land (next to present day Green’s Produce) along Arkansas Lane and called it Happenstance. It was also happenstance that First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt came to the home of Carl Mosig, with her son Elliott later that year. This chance meeting led Eleanor to believe she had located the perfect spot for one of her husband’s Subsistence Homestead Program sites that were part of the New Deal.
